People who read investment books have thousands of choices. Those most interested in insights from both Wall Street (stockbrokers) and Main Street (investment advisers) will be attracted to Julie Jason’s award-winning books and columns. Julie, who has been writing and lecturing “forever,” in her words, started her Wall Street career as a lawyer responsible for Investment Company Act matters for a major brokerage firm whose name you would recognize. Writing was a big part of her job and included SEC disclosures such as prospectuses for mutual funds and proxy statements for public companies. When she was recruited to assume money management responsibilities, she took on running the brokerage firm's managed futures subsidiary and set up its trust company. That background led to her founding an “investment counsel” firm where her team focuses on custom-tailoring portfolios for high-net-worth clients who appreciate the value of a "fiduciary-only-and-always" boutique environment. Motivated by helping bridge “knowledge asymmetry” in financial services, Julie began writing for the public in 1996 with “You and Your 401(k): How to Manage Your 401(k) for Maximum Returns” (Simon & Schuster), garnering the endorsement of the president of the Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America. At the time, pensions were being displaced by 401(k) plans. 401(k)s called for active employee decision-making; pensions did not. Julie saw the problem. Employees were unprepared; they had to take control but did not know how. Her book taught readers why they needed to expand their knowledge not only of 401(k)s, but also, why they needed to plan and prepare for their own retirement security -- something they didn't have to worry about when pensions were popular. The next book was for 401(k) sponsors: “The 401(k) Plan Handbook” (1997), followed by “Strategic Investing After 50” (2001); “Julie Jason’s Guide to Connecticut Probate: What Every Connecticut Family Needs to Know About Probate" (2006); "The AARP Retirement Survival Guide" (2009); “Managing Retirement Wealth” (2011/2017); “The Retirement Survival Guide” (2017); “Retire Securely” (2018); and "The Discerning Investor" (2022), an American Bar Association publication for lawyers and their clients. Taken together with her regular contributions to forbes.com and over 1,200 weekly investor education columns (syndicated by Andrews McMeel Syndication), she is a trusted voice in retirement investing. Recognized for clarity in writing and excellence in financial literacy education by the prestigious EIFLE and CLARION awards, Julie’s insights and manner of presentation invite engagement and lead to better decision-making. A mother of two and a grandmother of five, she is working on a financial literacy book for young children. Julie invites her readers to communicate with her through her column.
