When he was twenty-two, K.R. Hill left the States in search of adventure and backpacked across Europe, Africa and Mexico. During his years abroad, Kevin picked apples in Switzerland, bailed hay in Denmark, taught English in Germany, and opened a bar in Israel. The bar was going well until he cut down a tree for Christmas that turned out to have been a diplomatic gift to the Israeli government, and one of only three in the country. Needless to say, that didn't go over well. Always present during his travels was his dream of being a writer. But writing, he knew, was a craft, a trade that required training and study. After several university classes, he began to sell travel articles while building his own construction business. Next came the publication of some magazine articles. After a divorce, he sold everything and moved into an abandoned house beside the Caribbean. There he slept in a hammock, carried water in a plastic jug, daily spearfished for lobster, and clanked out the first draft of a mystery/thriller on a manual typewriter, stopping now and then to spray Bug and Tar Remover at mosquitoes. Writing about police officers and private investigators flowed out of him. This he attributes to having grown up in a law enforcement family that often shared stories about police work at the dinner table. K.R. Hill now has three mystery/thriller novels, a book of short stories, and two non-fiction books on the market. He lives with his wife and big rescue dog in the 'burbs of LA, and once in a while he still hears the sweet, seductive call of his long-time mistress, travel.
