Katherine Brady was born December 11, 1943 in Dubuque Iowa, USA. She was educated, married and had a family in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In the process of a divorce, she went back to college at The University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, to study creative writing. It was in that writing program that she created her autobiography - FATHER'S DAYS: A True Story of Incest ( Seaview 1979, Dell 1981). It took five years to write and three full drafts and it became the first ever, first person account of a real incest family published in America. It was also published in Canada, Japan and Sweden. Katherine is not her real name. She is Renee Despins and chose a pen name to represent the myriad victims of sexual abuse, rape and incest. Katherine and her parents appeared twice on the PHIL DONAHUE TALK SHOW upon the publication dates of the book. It was a ground-breaking pioneer event as together they brought incest out of the closet. FATHER'S DAYS became a New York Times instant bestseller and once the author developed a speaking career on the International College Lecture Circuit, it backlisted for ten years. A feature film titled SOMETHING ABOUT AMELIA was drawn from the story and became the most-watched TV film in America at the time. Katherine's lecture career was highly successful earning her a nomination as Speaker of The Year from the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) and the Harry Chapin Award for Contributions to Humanity. In 2012, Katherine published FATHER'S DAYS on Amazon and Amazon Kindle to keep the dialogue going and help survivors - and victims - of sexual abuse, incest and rape know that they are not alone and not to blame. Katherine raised her two daughters single handedly in New York City and the Hamptons and also developed careers in real estate investment, writing, creating, producing and acting for television, film and the internet. In 2014 Katherine moved to Hollywood California to pursue a life-long dream to live in Los Angeles and to further develop her interests in the entertainment industry. She is currently creating a web series for YouTube titled - Not Your Father's Senior.
