Ken Buckles is a retired high school teacher/coach and author of REMEMBRANCE: Remembering My Veteran Friends and Guests from Living History Days. Ken was motivated by the suicide of his Marine father, who suffered PTSD from the Korean War, to start a program called Living History Day at Milwaukie High School in the state of Oregon in 1996. The program came into origin because Ken became concerned about how the current youth were unaware of the meaning of Veterans Day. It was there at his high school for over twenty-four years Ken brought American veterans from all over the United States to share their military experiences during times of war with the students. The program he built for twenty-four years brought veterans from all over the United States to high schools in Oregon to share with students their military experiences during times of war. When he is not spending time with his beautiful wife and children, as well as his numerous grandchildren, Ken continues to work full-time on getting his message out regarding veterans. That message is that we must remember veterans' stories lest we forget the cost they gave for our freedom.
