Larry's best known novel, "Campaign 2100: Game of Scorpions," came out in 2016, from World Weaver Press. It covers the election for president of Earth in the year 2100, when the world has adopted the American two-party electoral system, with an incredulous alien ambassador along for the ride, and features a third-party moderate challenge that pits father against daughter. (One of the main characters is a professional table tennis player.)
USA Table Tennis Hall of Famer and Science Fiction & Fantasy Writer Larry Hodges has spent most of the past 30 years coaching at the Maryland Table Tennis Center in Gaithersburg, MD and writing SF stories and novels. (See www.TableTennisCoaching.com, including his daily table tennis blog.) He chairs the Coaching Committee for USA Table Tennis, and was editor of USA Table Tennis Magazine (cir. 8000) for 12 years. He is certified by USA Table Tennis as a National Coach, the highest level of coaching certification in table tennis. He is also certified as a coach by the International Table Tennis Federation, one of the first two coaches from the U.S. to receive such certification. He was elected to the USATT Board of Directors in January, 2015.
In 2002 he was named Developmental Coach of the Year for Table Tennis by USATT and the U.S. Olympic Committee. He has worked with many of the best players in the country, both in Maryland and as manager and later a director and coach at the Olympic Training Center from 1985-1990. For many years he coached the U.S. National Junior Team at major tournaments in the U.S. and around the world. He has taught table tennis classes in colleges, schools and clubs all over the United States. He is also the head coach at TableTennisCoaching.com, where he regularly blogs. In 2018, USA Table Tennis awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award.
He is author of over 2000 published articles in over 170 different publications, including over 1700 on table tennis, in addition to over 1800 blog entries. He has 17 books - nine on table tennis, plus four novels and five collections. ("The Spirit of Pong" is a novel on table tennis, so it qualifies for both.)
