About Larry W. Gamble Born in Postville, Iowa, raised in nearby Elkader to the age of 10, Larry grew to adulthood in Modesto, California, and later attended California State University-Fresno. He is a former assistant professor at Kalamazoo College in Michigan and the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico and former instructor at Reedley College-Clovis North Campus in Clovis, California. Other corporate positions include owner-manager at KAAT/KTNS Radio in Oakhurst; President of California Tower Company and Chief Executive Officer at Independent Properties, Inc., a real estate Investment company. Larry is currently retired and has written one family genealogy publication and five non-fiction memoir books. Married to Sylvia for 57 years, they live in Clovis, California. He indicates, they sold their two teenage sons to transient gypsies when they became troublesome, and instead, adopted two dogs, India and Rex. "Much easier to raise," they said. The dogs lived in peace and harmony with Sylvia and Larry for many, many years. Family history has always been a keen interest for Larry. After finishing the genealogical history book for the family, he focused his skills on writing the other personal memoirs. The publication titled, "Chasing Childhood Memories: The Iowa Years from 1943 to 1953" constitutes a nostalgic review of his childhood recollections of Elkader from the perspective of an old man. That sounds as though it could be somewhat uneventful, doesn't it? Au Contrair! He was a holy terror and taker of risks. Consequently, the last name, "Gamble" is entirely appropriate. For a child growing up in a small northeastern Iowa town, he has lived an unbelievably eventful life during decades of growth. By the time Larry reached puberty in California, his choices had made many unexpected turns. "Jumping Off the Roof," 1953 to 1963 chronicles a period filled with countless contradictions. Book number three, "The Middle Ages," 1964 to 1988, explores the cause and effect of the best and worst decisions made during this period. "Radio Daze," book number four, 1988 to 2005, illustrates the need to follow one's vision. The choices during this time became his last chance to succeed in business. It describes the highs and lows of opportunities taken and not. Book five, "Almost Home," concludes the series with the retirement years. As one might expect, that time was anything but restful and relaxing. The reader will relate to his constant curiosity about life and unexpected consequences. His intentions always seemed well-founded and reasonable. Unfortunately, "trouble" still managed to find him. As one close friend said, "Gamble, you were such a little shit! Always in trouble. Some things never change." Larry graciously accepts that verdict, "guilty as charged." And he wouldn't have it any other way.
