Many years ago (1993) I was captivated by the action-packed movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I wondered if business presentations could be improved with storytelling and began looking for an answer. I found "The Hero's Journey" was helpful but the learning curve was steep. I thought "There's got to be an easier way to learn business storytelling!". That's why I wrote this book. I've been in the computer industry most of my career. As a technical consultant for Hewlett Packard I've given many technical presentations to customers and support partners. I was always looking for ways to improve the content I was delivering. It wasn't easy. Although the storytelling concept is easy to understand I found that many people had trouble with implementing the ideas. Therefore, the Business Storytelling Guide is designed to make the storytelling process easier for beginning business storytellers. In a nutshell, the system I created makes the audience the hero, the presenter is the mentor and the narrative is about overcoming the audiences' challenges (shadow).
