Marcela Manjarrez is CEO of M Strategic Communications Consulting. She has more than 25 years of experience in strategic communications, research and analysis, including building strategic communications teams and working with CEOs and other C-suite executives and Central Banks on reputation management. Marcela served as Chief Communications Officer for Centene Corporation for seven years. Marcela oversaw all strategic communications for the company, including the planning and development of programs that effectively described and promoted Centene, its services, and its products including media and public relations across the enterprise, all health plans and specialty subsidiaries, as its main media spokesperson. She also managed the Centene Charitable Foundation, making substantial contributions to initiatives that improved the quality of life and health in our communities. Centene is a Fortune 25 diversified healthcare enterprise providing a portfolio of services to government and commercial healthcare programs with more than 70 thousand employees serving over 25 million individuals. Prior to joining Centene, she had a successful 15-year career at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis where she held various roles with increasing responsibility, starting as a Research Analyst and finishing as Vice President, Public Affairs, leading the external communications, industry relations, and public outreach functions for the bank. Marcela earned her B.S. in Economics from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and her master’s degree in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis. She studied Communications and External Relations for Central Banks at Christ College and Actuarial Science at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. She is certified by Harvard Business School on Making Corporate Boards More Effective. Marcela serves on the board of Enterprise Financial Services Corp (Nasdaq: EFSC) and Clayco. She serves on the boards of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, ABC to CEO and Counterpublic, and is an advisory board member for Washington University in St. Louis’ Center for Finance and Accounting Research. Marcela was recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal as one of the 2019 Most Influential Business Women and as a Diverse Business Leader in 2017. UMSL recognized her as a Distinguished Alumni in 2022 Latino Leaders Magazine recognized Marcela as one of the Top Latino Executives in Corporate America in 2018, one of the Top Latinos in C-Suite in 2019 and as one of the Top Latinos in Corporate America in 2020 and 2021. At the time, there were only 155 Latinos or Latinas in these positions, which represented 2.5% of the C-Suite on the F1000 company index.
