Maria Marotti was born in Rome, Italy, where she was brought up and received her education. She completed her education with a Ph.D in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she eventually settled with her husband, an American mathematician. Maria is a retired academic (University of Rome, University of California), a Mark Twain, genre and women's Studies specialist who wrote and published four books of literary criticism. After leaving academia, Maria became a hypnotherapist who specialized in smoking cessation, past life regression and holotropic breathwork. She started writing and publishing detective novels--A Question of Class (2006) and its sequel The Etruscan Princess (2021)--and the humorous animal memoir, Memoirs of a Scoundrel Dog, soon to be followed by The Saint, the Angel and the Mean Cat. Maria is also the author of short stories and screenplays. She lives in Santa Barbara California with her partner and their cat.
