Actually - it's quite a story. There was no way I could ever have planned being where I am now based on how my career started! I'm an economist...or at least I was...or maybe I still am. I think once you are an economist, you can't really un-learn it! And so, with that education behind me, I went ahead and followed an initial ambition to be a stockbroker. I found myself in London working with Merrill Lynch. So young that I was not allowed to go and visit clients, I was broking Japanese Equities and Warrants (on the phone!) and on a very steep learning curve. Apparently I had a way with words and so, as time passed, I was often the one put up at the front of client meetings to explain our research product and why it was so valuable. There came a point where I knew it was right to move on and away from stockbroking. Probably when they shut our 'desk' down and gave me a nice piece of compensation! So, with a cushion of cash, I decided to do something I really wanted to do - broadcasting. Yep - an easy and smooth transition from finance into TV presenting in the UK. I eventually found myself hosting a live, daily three hour money program called "Buy, Sell or Hold". The interesting result was that after the live executive interviews, these guys would be simultaneously taking their microphones off and handing me their business cards. They suggested that I come along to their companies and host their events. Next these same executives started to ask if I could address their teams on 'communication' and Media. Each need that I identified became a stepping stone for my career. Suddenly I had developed a full keynote and a big speaking business. I was then discovering that if I had delivered a keynote I could then cross-sell the coaching product that I had developed. Interestingly, if I had managed to sell my coaching sessions to a new client I could then cross sell my keynote. Success built on success. I wrote and self-published "What's up with your handshake?". I suddenly started to get invited on big TV shows like NBC's Today Show, ABC News and Fox Business. The key to this steep climb? It was all based on the relationships I was building. Without initially realising it, I was becoming "business-friends" with my clients. I had become a trusted adviser. I was continuing to win them over and then was benefitting from my clients actually becoming an unofficial sales team, They were recommending me to others - my business was growing even faster. Can you imagine having your great clients then actually selling you and your services to new clients?? And so I started to write down the secrets that I was discovering - I created a toolbox of communication techniques that anyone can use. The L-WAR, a set of rules that we all need to follow to 'seduce' those business opportunities. And so, "The Art of Business Seduction" was born. It's about turning people on to who you are. It's your key to understanding how to change the way people see you so that you fit directly into the needs. The biggest tip for getting any job, promotion or payrise is .... Don't sell - Relate. The new ABC is now Always Be Connecting. The secrets to growing your own success and to quickly getting everything you want are yours - "The Art of Business Seduction".
