Mike Torreano is an award-winning author who writes historical fiction and western mysteries set in mid-to-late 19th century America. Growing up in Ohio, he developed a love for the Old West during grade school when he read every Zane Grey novel he could lay his hands on. His favorite authors/poets in this genre are Grey, Louis L'amour, Jack London, and Robert Service. The Reckoning is his first published novel-thank you, The Wild Rose Press! Set in Colorado during 1868, it's a tale of murdered parents, a sister's disappearance, the love of a feisty landlady and a son's revenge. The sequel to The Reckoning is The Renewal, same setting in South Park, Colorado four years later. Another western mystery in traditional who-dun-it mode. Railroad land grabs ignite Ike McAlister and local ranchers' resistance. A shocking murder leads to all-out war. His third western, A Score To Settle, is a tale of romance and greed that follows the same cattle trail in 1870 New Mexico Territory that inspired Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove. White Sands Gold is his most recent western mystery. Does the fabled gold really exist? What is the relic? Who's going to find it first and at what cost? And what really happens at the end? Mike has a short story called The Trade published in an anthology. It's based on his grandfather's time in the Yukon Gold Rush from 1898-1900. The idea grew from the kernel of a story his mother shared with him about a dramatic incident his grandfather experienced there. His most recently-released novel is titled Fireflies At Dusk. Set during the Civil War era, it's a coming-of-age tale of a young man who throws off his pacifist upbringing and joins the Union Army. The war strips him of his self-respect and he must decide whether to undertake a gritty journey during harsh combat to reclaim it--and his sweetheart.
