Having been in business for thirty-five years and hasseled by professionals, I figured that I was well prepared for writing. How much harder could it be? I asked myself. Certainly it is harder but rewarding. I started my new venture after attending six boot-camp type writing workshops. I studied with some amazing authors, many of whom were also good teachers. In 2005, I began my first book FIRST LOVE, LAST DANCE, which would end up to be a five year project. It is a memoir about my mother, Elise, who fell in love for the first time at age 19. Peter was his name. She dated him for two years and then became engaged. But she didn't marry him until she was 75! So...it is a love story to be sure, but more than that it is a story about second chances. My mother made another choice and would be separated from Peter for over fifty years. Many agents didn't think this poignant tale with a happy ending would sell. I self-published and then got to work with marketing it. After setting up the website, NBC was the first to embrace and feature the story via an interview of Elise and Peter when they were both 90 years old and had been married 15 years. Later, CNN picked up the interview. Subsequently, a lot changed. I have done over 106 readings, twelve radio interviews, and been on other NBC stations. Mostly, it has been a joy to see how happy the success has made my mother and Peter.
