One kind act changed my life. Now I help others use micro-actions of kindness to increase positivity where they work and live. I want to help anyone who works, and primarily people who manage others, to eliminate negativity in the workplace through the regular use of small positive actions. I am passionate about this because it is the most effective method I have found to impact a company or organization’s culture positively. If there is a “kindness business” I have been in it for more than twenty years. I’ve taught a lot of classes. I’ve given a lot of speeches. I think the smallest group I’ve ever taught was five and one of the five walked out before I finished! The largest group I ever led was 20,000 in an online webinar in 2017. What I discovered is this: an awful lot of the people who have listened to my lessons didn’t seem to change much. People were about as kind or unkind years after I taught them as the day they listened to me. People were about as caring or uncaring, thoughtful or unthoughtful after learning about being caring as they were before. It’s hard for people to change just by being taught new information. So, I stopped teaching knowledge about kindness and started coaching people on how to be kinder. I focus on companies and organizations because they have such potential to have a significant impact on so many people. One manager can increase the positivity among her direct reports who then turn around and express kindness to those they supervise. Teaching about positivity had minimal results for me. Coaching how to do it is making a difference everywhere I turn.
