Pamela Spiro Wagner, now known as Phoebe Sparrow Wagner, co-wrote DIVIDED MINDS: Twin Sisters and Their Journey Through Schizophrenia (St Martins Press, 2005) with her identical twin sister, Carolyn S. Spiro MD, a psychiatrist. Wagner's book of poems WE MAD CLIMB SHAKY LADDERS, also about schizophrenia and recovery was published by CavanKerry Press in 2009. Her third volume, which showcases both her poems and her paintings, LEARNING TO SEE IN THREE DIMENSIONS, (Green Writers Press) came out in the spring of 2017. A prize-winning poet and writer, despite multiple hospital stays due to her diagnosis of "paranoid schizophrenia" complicated by neurological Lyme disease and narcolepsy, Wagner no longer believes in mental illness diagnoses, psychiatry, or the efficacy of psychiatric medications. She does public speaking, poetry readings and teaches art. In addition to creating life-size papier mache sculptures and her other work as a poet and artist (see Wagblog with the link to her flickr page), she is a practiced jewelry maker and amateur field botanist. Currently, she resides in Vermont.
