Philip was brought up on a farm in Scotland by his adopted parents, where he preferred to work in the garden than learn latin or go to Church. After being expelled from school, he found himself adopted by the Edinburgh alternative queer scene, where he started to really learn about life. At 22 he got on a bus to London where he danced with every boy in town and got involved in the music business. But he has never lost his love for Scotland returning often to follow his a lifelong yearning to walk the paths and ways across hills and high lands whenever he can. But his most steadfast love was always the escape offered by books and despite having no qualifications he later persuaded Oxford University to accept him aged 28, where he was lucky enough to be allowed to read as much as he could and listen to lectures from critical heroes like John Carey, Tom Paulin and Seamus Heaney. He went on to research an MPhil at Glasgow University on Scottish literary pugilist and founder of Blackwood's Magazine, Professor John Wilson aka 'Christopher North'. After this he joined BBC Scotland where he was the producer of a pioneering online learning platform. His first book 'Cooking without Recipes' (2011) was inspired by teaching his elderly widowed father to cook his favourite dishes. Following its moderate success, he opened a restaurant in London called PipsDish. He later moved to Barcelona where the idea for his first novel was born. He now lives in London with his husband and dog and runs a gardening business. 'Daniel, at sea' is his debut novel.
