Samia Serageldin was raised trilingual in Egypt, pursued graduate studies at London University, where she earned her MS in Politics, and immigrated to the United States in the eighties. She is the author of an autobiographical novel, The Cairo House, which has been translated into ten European languages as well as Arabic; an historical novel, The Naqib's Daughter, set during Napoleon's occupation of Egypt; and a collection of linked stories, Love is Like Water. Her latest publication is Mothers and Strangers, which she co-edited with Lee Smith, a collection of essays by well-known authors on their mothers. She is currently writing a novel set against the backdrop of the Egyptian revolution of 2011, which she experienced first hand. Samia is an editor of South Writ Large Magazine: Stories, Arts and Ideas from the Global South. She is also the author of essays on Islam, women, and Arab American literature, all published in edited volumes. Samia is North Carolina-based, but with family and friends on three continents, she spends a good part of the year traveling, and finds the best traveling companion to be an engrossing book.
