Scott Anderson grew up in East Asia, the youngest son of an American foreign aid officer. In addition to being a nonfiction book writer and novelist, he is a veteran war correspondent, having covered conflicts on four continents over the past three decades. A contributing writer of the New York Times Magazine, his 2016 landmark report on the Middle East for the Magazine, “Fractured Lands,” remains the longest sole-author article in American magazine history. His 2013 book, Lawrence in Arabia: War, Deceit, Imperial Folly and the Making of the Modern Middle East was a National Book Critics Award finalist and an international bestseller, having been translated into a dozen languages. His first novel, Triage, was adapted into a movie of the same name, starring Colin Farrell and directed by Danis Tanovic. Anderson is married to documentary filmmaker Nanette Burstein, and is the brother of New Yorker writer Jon Lee Anderson. He lives in the New York City area, and has one daughter.
