Among other adventures Shirley has swung a sword with a stunt crew on a movie set, studied karate, split wood, bow hunted wild turkeys, been certified as a Shiatsu therapist, gone hang-gliding, lived in a century old cabin, taught women, children, and differently-abled people self defense, rolled off the back of a horse more than once, framed up walls, worked in gourmet kitchens (knife-work translates really well into a kitchen), and is an artist who works in acrylics, oils, and paper maché. She loves thrift shops, and adores turning found things into art. She’s stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon, free-climbed a mountain in Germany, climbed down from the Acoma pueblo by the traditional route, taken flying lessons and still goes skiing occasionally. One of her favorite places to write used to be Key West, Florida, where she first snorkeled a reef. Her bucket list includes learning to scuba dive, drive a motorcycle, and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, hopefully before the Snows of Kilimanjaro become the Slushes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. She is planning build a duct tape kayak sometime and would like to vacation on a tall ship. She loves swimming. Of course she will swear this is all research! She counts both English and German as her first languages because she grew up speaking both.
