Simon is an Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, where he lectures on behavioural science applied to medicine. His research spans a range of topics, including auditory verbal hallucinations ('hearing voices'), childhood adversity, shame, spite, and the right to freedom of thought. Before arriving at Trinity College Dublin, he held research positions at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, and at Durham University in the UK. His other interests include test match cricket, books, and books. According to the New York Times, he is a funny writer "for a psychologist".
