Sofia Axelrod, PhD, is a sleep researcher in the laboratory of Michael W. Young, the winner of the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, at the Rockefeller University in New York. She studied in Germany at Eberhard-Karls-University in Tübingen and at Humboldt University in Berlin, where she earned her PhD in biology in 2012. When Sofia had her first child she applied her work as a sleep scientist to her daughter's sleep. Her gentle, science-backed methods worked not just for her own children (she now has a son as well) but also for many other parents that she helps through her baby sleep coaching. This led her to write her book, How Babies Sleep: The Gentle, Science-Based Method to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night.
