Labeled a “Web-naut” by Wired Magazine in 1996, engineer/photographer/editor/author Stephen Spanoudis has been editing and publishing on theotherpages.org since the earliest days of the Web. He currently has fifteen stories, books, and serial adventures available through Amazon. Starting in 2014, he began creating The Republic of Dreams - a cycle of books and shorter works that chronicle the lives of the Metro family, and the ways in which they influence the events of the 22nd century - a time when oceans have risen ten meters above 20th century levels and made the world a more dangerous place. Wanderers, a good entry point in the series, revolves around young Exander Metro, who is a magnet (his older sister says metaphor) for trouble, and his mother Admete, a woman with a hidden past who will do whatever it takes to protect her family as she deals with chemical and biological nightmares left behind by prior centuries. Be forewarned, if you have phobias, you may have a few nightmares of your own. Final Orbit, another good entry point, jumps a century back into our future history to tell the entwined stories of Mario Ng, an astronaut, and Ana Silva, an artist and musician. Sea level rise has accelerated dramatically and disruptors (terrorists) wreak havoc on a horrific scale. This book is an emotional roller-coaster that may require a box of tissues nearby, but it is definitely worth the ride. Roger and Phoebe, on the Kindle Vella platform, is a completely different, and highly original story about searching for answers and protecting what you love, starring Phoebe, a woman unlike any other, Azalea, her personal AI, and Roger, a fairly ordinary guy who understands that life with Phoebe will never be ordinary, and it will involve lots of large-caliber weapons. Third Citizen of Dreams, also on Kindle Vella, combines four tales of adventure and personal growth in a post-sea-level-rise world that has become far more dangerous and unpredictable. Follow Rahiti, Teora, Manu and Keao as they they take far-flung assignments for SEAPAC, the world's largest corporation, aided by Ariadne, a global artificial intelligence. Stephen's publishing efforts dating back to the early days of the internet can be found on the Web ( https://theotherpages.org ).
