TERRY FARISH writes books for young adults and children. Her forthcoming YA novel, GO HOME, (Groundwood Books) is written with Lochan Sharma whose family are Nepali-speaking refugees from Bhutan. The publisher writes: “In a small New Hampshire Seacoast city, a teenaged girl’s loyalty is torn between the boy she loves and her burgeoning friendship with the son of recent immigrants from a refugee camp in Nepal. The story cuts through political and cultural stereotypes to show the human layers underneath.” Terry's picture books include A FEAST FOR JOSEPH created with OD Bonny and illustrator Ken Daley. It has been featured at The Newcomer Kitchen in Toronto where refugee cooks share their traditional foods. The first Joseph book, JOSEPH’S BIG RIDE, is about a boy from South Sudan who finally gets to ride a bike in America. It has been featured in bike shops across the country, on public radio, and the NY Times. Her novel in verse THE GOOD BRAIDER is set in South Sudan and Portland, Maine. It's an ALA Best Book for Young Adults and An Outstanding Book for the Lifelong Learner. THE CAT WHO LIKED POTATO SOUP, illustrated by Barry Root, was a Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books Blue Ribbon Winner. Terry teaches adult English learners who come to the US from countries around the world. Terry was a Red Cross worker in Viet Nam during the American war. She returned to Viet Nam in 2023 and writes about her journey on her website in a series called "Letters to My Daughter.”
