Timothy Verstynen is an Assistant Professor in Psychology and the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition at Carnegie Mellon University. By day he is a mild-mannered scientist who studies sensorimotor control, learning and how social and health factors affect the brain. Specifically he is interested in how we plan our actions, how we learn from our past mistakes and how the nature of the brain's wiring constraints cognition. By night Dr. Verstynen is a Zombie Scientist, studying the undead in the hopes of educating the public about the brain and the history of neuroscience. It has been said that Dr. Verstynen and zombies share a common taste for brains, except Dr. Verstynen prefers his in digital format. Dr. Verstynen has a a general passion for science outreach. He is a regular blogger at Psychology Today, co-hosts a podcast on philosophy and cognitive neuroscience called Axons to Axioms, and has given many public talks on neuroscience and the brain.
