Turtle Bunbury is a best-selling author, public speaker and historian based in Ireland. His latest book 'The Irish Diaspora' (Thames & Hudson, 2021) has been applauded as 'impeccably researched' and 'fascinating' by BBC History Magazine, and 'wonderful' by the New York Daily News. This follows on from the success of his 2020 best-seller 'Ireland's Forgotten Past', which Sebastian Barry described as 'delicious … a stirring atlas of Irishness’. His 2016 book '1847 - A Chronicle of Genius, Generosity & Savagery', one of the top-selling history books of 2016, was acclaimed by the Oscar-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson as 'vivid, surprising, hugely entertaining; an unforgettable encounter with an extraordinary year.” A shorter version of the book, created in 2021, is available via Kindle as 'Hope in 1847.' Turtle's previous books include 'Easter Dawn - The 1916 Rising' (2015), 'The Glorious Madness - Tales of the Irish & the Great War' (short-listed for Best Irish-published Book of the Year 2014) and the best-selling 'Vanishing Ireland' books, three of which were shortlisted for Best Irish-published Book of the Year. Turtle's book, 'Sporting Legends of Ireland' was nominated for the 2010 William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year Award. He is also author of several lavishly illustrated coffee table books such as 'Adare Manor', 'The Irish Pub' and 'Living in Sri Lanka'. Turtle is a professional historian and amongst his other published titles are 'Adare Manor - The Renaissance of an Irish Country Manor', 'A History of the Dublin Docklands', 'The Landed Gentry and Aristocracy of Co. Wicklow' and 'The Landed Gentry and Aristocracy of Co. Wicklow'. Turtle lives in Co. Carlow with his wife Ally and two daughters, Jemima and Bay.
