Wayne Curtis is the author of “And a Bottle of Rum: A History of the New World in Ten Cocktails,” and “The Last Great Walk: The True Story of a 1909 Walk from New York to San Francisco and Why It Matters Today.” He’s a contributing editor at The Atlantic, and has freelanced for a slew of publications, including American Scholar, New York Times, Wall St. Journal, American Archeology, Preservation, and The Smart Set. He writes frequently about travel, history, cocktails and spirits, and is currently a columnist for The Daily Beast, Garden & Gun, Imbibe, and Spirited magazine. In 2002 he was named Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year, and in 2017 was recognized as the Best Spirits and Cocktail Writer at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards. He lives in New Orleans except during the yellow fever, when he retreats to Maine.
