I was 19 when I first sprinted for an international border. Mexican police tore into a bloody brawl at a crummy bar deep inside Juarez and I bolted down the stairs, chased by a fast-moving parade of uniforms through crowded streets as they wore out their whistles and I anticipated a bullet in the back. I absolutely loved it and have been jumping borders ever since, usually with a legal visa, sometimes with a black market one, and occasionally with no cover-of-authority at all. I've jumped for governments and security clients, but mostly out of my own lust for adventure, and always alone. That is, until my beautiful, brainy wife – a war-zone veteran who's fluent in a handful of languages and drives just about anything on wheels – teamed up with me. I'm Wes DeMott, I'm an adventurer, and I can't help myself. My dad laid out the pattern and my mom stitched the seams. I've broken dozens of bones and needed hundreds of stitches to close wounds, but I still live for the metal taste that only comes when excitement outpaces fear. Add an ocean to that exotic flavor and I'm happier than a kid with an ant farm. I'm also a novelist. I don't write stories about outer space or werewolves because I don't know squat about either one, but like Hemingway and London before me, you can bet your last canteen of water that I'm pretty damn familiar with everything you read in my books To adventure…Wes December 13, 2011 - I'm excited to watch six of my novels become e-books over the next two or three weeks. I resisted electronic publication for years, but while living in Mexico I really appreciated the amazing ability to download English language books in seconds. Three of the novels (TORTUGA GOLD, LOVING ZELDA, and THE TYPHOON SANCTION) are brand new and never before released. For the previously traditionally-published books for which the rights reverted back to me (THE FUND, HEAT SYNC, and WALKING K) I did a thorough update/rewrite. I'm currently having lots of fun working on TEQUILA BOOM BOOM, the second Mayday Salvage and Rescue novel in the series. Fans who have followed my writing from the start have, I'm sure, noticed an interesting evolution as I wrote out my demons, and that evolution has brought me to this place where I can write fun adventure stories. John D. MacDonald once said that his career didn't really take off until he discovered his protagonist, Travis McGee. The early betting is that I'll say something similar about Taz Keaton at some point down the line. The structure of each Mayday book will, I hope, become a familiar friend to readers as they enjoy the excitement and historical elements of the story while tagging along with Taz, Sam, Pete and a great supporting cast of unusual characters. The dialogue is fun, and although I can't seem to escape the gravitational pull of explosive action, the Mayday books show it in more of a fun way than my previous works, something along the lines of watching an Indiana Jones movie.
