I just finished this series, including the novellas. This first book was a great start. It’s my first dark romance. It should come with a trigger warning though.

Not loving the Narrotors
I don't know about this book... Maybe if there was different narrotors, I struggled with the female narrator.
Also, if I read/listen to another "Micheal".... uuuhh Annoying as hell. The book was good from 70% to 90%.

good story, but lots of "smut" talk
sorry was ok, but they really should be a warning of soft core porn in places, Holy smokes, I've heard sexually explicit novels before, but this one was, well, a bit too much for me anyway, some may enjoy this kind of talk, however I don't. it came on when I was in the car with my daughter and little granddaughter -- Holy embarrassment!

Oh Shit what a first !!!
it was my first time reading a dark romance and I didn't know what to expect and I can say that it too me a while to feel ok with what I was listening.
At first I wasn't a fan of Rika but the second half of the book made me love her and feel her strenght even though she isn't as bad ass as others. Also Michael surprised me at every turn. Can't wait to read or listen the second book.
Unfortunately I am not a fan of the female narrator and I doubt I'll continue the series on Audible for that reason.

Gripping storylines Emotionally Charged Characters
Narration at times was unfortunately bland and lacking enough emotion for the scene
But a strong enough storyline that was able to shine through.
Can’t wait to listen to the next in series

A few surprises
You know the spot.. I was out on my walk listening to one part of this and man I hope no one was looking cause they would have seen me blushing and smiling.. kinda sexy kinda hott kinda will definitely read more.

Unpredictable
I went through this in 2 days. The first half had me feeling impatient wanting to get to the plot. Spicy but in a dark and twisted way. Do not recommend if you get triggered by SA. Very impressed by the author and narrators.

I found the plot lackluster. I really really really wanted to love this book. The back and forth between present and past was a nice touch to keep you engaged, it just didn't have a great base. The plot twists were great, I just found by halfway through the book I just didn't care anymore to finish it.
Writing quality& nonrepetitive 3/5
Writing quality - A personality-flat young woman, and very distasteful enemy type man.
Nonrepetitive- not too repetitive to the point I vividly remember rolling my eyes.
I found corrupt fairly similar to credence where there wasn't too much repitition however, the basis of the books were similar in the sense of girl and mean guy. I'm beginning to wonder if it's an author thing?
Characters 3/5
I found each character very flat and surface level. There was no real depth to them.
Ending 3/5
HEA. But not a great one. It was predictable, I seen it coming from a mile away.
Backstory/world building 5/5
Penelope Douglas does an amazing job at really setting the scenes. You can close your eyes and be there as a fly on the wall. It's incredible how well she paints a picture.

Oh my god i love kai 🥰🥰
I can’t get enough of this serries and can’t wait to get into the next books!!! Ahhhh oh my god!! It was amazing!! The faces i made were hilarious and my family gave me strange looks anytime i talked back to the book!! Im so glad i started this book serries like this!!
