À propos de cet audio

Zavier “Cade” McCade, former Army Special Forces and creator of Custos Securities, finds himself in a situation he never thought he'd be in - he's fallen in love with Braden Cross, the gorgeous pastry chef he's guarding. Cade has lived his life as a protector: of his country, his family and friends, his clients, and now, the man with whom he's in love. He thrives in dangerous and stressful situations. But nothing could prepare him for Braden's decision to put himself in danger.

After a vicious attack from his stalker leaves Braden fighting for his life, Cade will stop at nothing to see the man responsible punished. Time passes, but Braden's attacker hasn't given up, and Cade's afraid he never will. As Cade and the most trusted members of Custos Securities track Braden's assailant, Braden struggles to rebuild his life and reestablish the fragile trust he and Cade had worked so hard to build. Braden knows if he's going to survive the chaos surrounding him, he's going to have to give Cade everything he has - mind, body, and soul.

More determined than ever to hunt down the man who nearly killed the love of his life, Cade will do everything in his power to ensure he and Braden will be able to live the life of their dreams with nothing and no one standing in their way.

Meanwhile, hidden just out of their reach, an increasingly deranged stalker watches...and waits.

Worse than the first book

Why do I torture myself? I didn't like book one and didn't remember until I started listening to this book. I couldn't believe the author again wrote a book with such a frustratingly, stupid male lead and a frustratingly obnoxious male lead. I had even less sympathy for Brayden in this book and even less tolerance for cade in this book than in the first book.

A number of things rubbed me wrong in this book.

It's one thing reading paranormal novels with all-powerful supernatural creatures like mages and vampires and alphas. It's another listening to cade and his self-righteous attitude, just because his family has clout and prestige. in this book he thinks he can make demands on anyone and they have no choice but to fall in line. such an abuse of power.

When Cade demands the detective work the way he wants him to work and threatens that he'll have him fired because of who he is, if the detective speaks to braden with insensitivities, I almost felt like we were back in the eighteen hundreds with lords and dukes who could do no wrong and could twart an investigation because of their title.

The worst part of the situation resulting in cade's high handedness is that the detective's words may have been hurtful to Braden because it brought to light actions braden didn't take the first time that resulted in a worse situation the second time, but his words were not hateful. yes, the detective may need some sensitivity training, and maybe it's better for him to change departments or simply get some counseling but his words were not such that should have resulted in Cade threatening his job... Just because his family has prestige and knows the people in charge.

In this book, cade and his group came across as a special security service that thinks they are above the judicial system and that they can do whatever they want. Make demands to the cops, ignore them when they want and give them the information they want them to have, when they're good and ready, instead of being a security service that works with the cops when a situation demands.

This book highlights all the things we find fault in when it comes to people in power or people with money. Another ex. though there are hospital rules and regulations, because cade's brother is high in the medical world, cade apparently gets to sit in with patients when the doctors say no one is allowed, he gets to have special treatment and watches a surgery happening, demand special staff watch over braden, treat paramedics and anyone not in his circle like dirt, make demands on staff members in the hospital and treat them like garbage. I'm not sure if the author intended for it to seem sweet and endearing because he's distraught the love of his life is in hospital, but it came across like I have power and you don't so you better do what I want you to do or you're not gonna be working here anymore, and it rubbed me sooo wrong.

I forced myself to listen, well...I listened to as many chapters as I could after the second hospital stay and ended all the action; which left 3 hours in the book. i started bulk skipping through the last 3 hours. I realized 2 things. It was completely unnecessary and could have been summed up in one chapter in an epilogue, and two, it was roll my eyes over the top ridiculous. the author obviously did not do any research on twins born at 35 weeks because, though 35 weeks is considered preterm for a single baby, it's a typical length for twins and 6 pounds twins that are born at 35 weeks?!! 6 pounds?!! my youngest at full term was just shy of 6 pounds. Typically, twins born at thirty five weeks are around five pounds or little less.

Now let's talk about the narration, the narrator's voice seems perfect for horror or psychological thrillers, but not for this book. His voice nor his acting worked well in this book. Not only did he not have a repertoire of different voices, but all the males, except for Braden sounded the same, and braden's voice was the same as all the females in the book. worst of all his narration was read in a methodical yet overdramatic way.

This book was a definite waste of time. i think if cade was a mob boss this book wouldn't rub me the wrong way. Because that's the behavior we expect from someone who controls a criminal organization, we expect the high handedness, we expect that they are demanding that everyone follow their rules, but as this was not that type of book, it failed on all ends, it failed on the romance. It failed on the action. It failed everywhere.
