Outstanding narration

I enjoyed this second novel as much as the first in this series mainly due to the fantastic narrator who really makes the characters come to life! The story is engaging with bits of humor that I didn't expect. Molly the maid is very endearing.

Carrie Soto is fierce, and her determination to win at any cost has not made her popular. But by the time she retires from tennis, she is the best player the world has ever seen. My knees ached when Carrie describes the pain!

I was surprised I enjoyed this book as much as I did! No knowledge of pro tennis is required. The narrators were very well chosen for the characters and I was quickly drawn in to Carrie's world of tennis and her journey toward understanding her self.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Histoire
Miss Pettigrew is a down-on-her-luck, middle-aged governess sent by her employment agency to work for a nightclub singer rather than a household of unruly children. Over a period of 24 hours, as she becomes caught up in the life of Delysia LaFloss, her own life is changed - forever. This charming, funny, light-hearted 1938 novel was a bestseller on its first appearance. Read by Academy Award winning actress Frances McDormand, who stars in the 2008 film as Miss Pettigrew.
