Histoire
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

One of his best. A great epic story spanning several generations of two families. A real legal thriller with so many exciting stories and court room dramas. I have read many of his books. This is in the top 3 for sure.

Down there, beyond the deepest caves, below the crust and the mantle, there is another world. An old woman locked away in a Russian asylum has a secret - knowledge of a 500-year-old manuscript written by a long-dead alchemist that will show a passage to the mythical centre of the Earth. She knows it’s real because 50 years ago, she and a team travelled there. And only she made it back. Today, caving specialist Mike Monroe leads a crew into the world’s deepest cave in the former Soviet Union.

Before I bought the book I read the reviews and was going to pass on it because many reviews did not like the narrator. I had no problem at all and loved the story.
I have read most of the books related to center of the earth adventures plus I have seen all the movies including the latest ones.
The book was fun, exciting and I liked the contemporary aspect where these adventurers were from our time period using computers and high tech gadgets etc.
The best part is, if you don’t like it, return it for a full refund.

Histoire
As always, Reacher has no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there. One morning he ends up in a town near Pleasantville, Tennessee. But there’s nothing pleasant about the place. In broad daylight Reacher spots a hapless soul walking into an ambush. “It was four against one” . . . so Reacher intervenes, with his own trademark brand of conflict resolution. The man he saves is Rusty Rutherford, an unassuming IT manager, recently fired after a cyberattack locked up the town’s data, records, information . . . and secrets.

Ignore any negative reviews - Book is Great
Évalué le: 2020-11-09
I have every Reacher novel and have listened to each at least 3 times over many many years. This book is great, The narration is very well done. Not Dick Hill but so what. The story is really well done and fast paced and interesting. Reacher is Reacher and he's in top form here. I almost wasn't going to buy the book based upon some of the reviews. In the end I couldn't think of any Reacher book that I would have wanted to pass on. I mean how bad does a Reacher book have to be to be worth not listening to? All of them were superb. The same goes for this book.

Histoire
At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of science and medicine. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right? Then a renowned and confrontational scholar winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate...and as he probes the recent ideological unrest, he soon comes to realize he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy.

Histoire
It all begins on a Monday, when four people board an elevator in a Manhattan office tower. Each presses a button for their floor, but the elevator proceeds, nonstop, to the top. Once there, it pauses for a few seconds, but the doors don't open. Instead, the elevator begins to descend floor-by-floor. Then it plummets. Right to the bottom of the shaft.

Asked for a Refund
Évalué le: 2019-10-01
I own over 400 audio book -90% Detective and Mystery, and I am very patient in allowing the author to develop their story. But after almost two hours of listening, I had had enough. Too many sub plots, cliched characters, and stereotypes. The good thing is I risked nothing by giving this book a try. Thank goodness for Audibles refund policy.
