Histoire
From the opening story, "Willing" - about a second-rate movie actress in her 30s who has moved back to Chicago, where she makes a seedy motel room her home and becomes involved with a mechanic who has not the least idea of who she is as a human being - Birds of America unfolds a startlingly brilliant series of portraits of the unhinged, the lost, the unsettled of our America. Lorrie Moore explores the personal and the universal, the idiosyncratic and the mundane, with all the wit, brio, and verve that have made her one of the best storytellers of our time.

I can't finish this book

Anger, ugly and no style, this book could have been written by anyone. Many authors lean on poor storytelling like this, giving the reader all the emotions so there's no guesswork. Recommended by my favourite actor and she's lost a lot of points for this.

Love undying

I am the same age as Sińead and when her first album came out, I bought it and shaved my head. The school cafeteria the next day was silent and people didn't dare to look at me. They thought I had cancer. It was the most dramatic start in self discovery and going beyond my comfort level has nothing but been a benefit in my life. Thank you Sińead.

Great, compelling storytelling

Let's give credit where credit belongs; Woody Allen makes the past come alive in a way few can. At times hard to listen when he's going into the mess of Allen/Farrow. Love his narrating, language and the Brooklyn accent.

Histoire
In Sapiens, Dr. Yuval Noah Harari spans the whole of human history, from the very first humans to walk the earth to the radical — and sometimes devastating — breakthroughs of the Cognitive, Agricultural, and Scientific Revolutions. Drawing on insights from biology, anthropology, palaeontology, and economics, he explores how the currents of history have shaped our human societies, the animals and plants around us, and even our personalities.

A tough listen during the pandemic. Insightful, but what now. Just a question mark.
