I thought this would be as good as the first book in the series, but it got even better. The characters became more complex, the story line more suspenseful, and there was not magic and mystery. It was a great listen. As soon as I finished this book I went right into the next book.

Afeclin touched the cradle delicately with one finger. All of a sudden he fell backward onto the floor as an image of the fire burst into his mind…. He had seen a horrified face that screamed amongst red hot flames.

I loved this book! I couldn’t stop listening to it.
What I liked about it:
- It has several different story lines that diverge, but all tie together.
- It has suspense, magic, mystery, and adventure.
- Kayberry builds a world that pulls you in, and characters that you quickly come to care about.
- I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed books by Brandon Mull (Fablehaven), or Rick Riodan (Percy Jackson).
