Histoire
A vicious 15-year-old droog is the central character of this 1963 classic, a frightening fable about good and evil, and the meaning of human freedom. In Anthony Burgess' nightmare vision of the future, where the criminals take over after dark, the story is told by the central character, Alex, who talks in a brutal invented slang that brilliantly renders his and his friends' social pathology.

A Real Horror Show, Oh my Brothers

The brutally violent Alex should be despised by the listener but Burgess’ writing and especially Hollander’s narration makes Alex an engaging, captivating and sympathetic character.

Histoire
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Histoire
With a compassionate realism and narrative sweep that recall the work of Charles Dickens, this magnificent novel captures all the cruelty and corruption, dignity and heroism, of India. The time is 1975. The place is an unnamed city by the sea. The government has just declared a State of Emergency, in whose upheavals four strangers - a spirited widow, a young student uprooted from his idyllic hill station, and two tailors who have fled the caste violence of their native village - will be thrust together, forced to share one cramped apartment and an uncertain future.

Remarkable Story and Narration
Évalué le: 2020-04-10
I read this book about 20 years ago and the story has stuck with me. Both for how Rohinton creates such beautiful characters and for how he illustrates the daily struggles of living in a corrupt and cast based society.
The Audio version brings Mistry’s words to life and takes his written work to a new level. Vikas Adam does an incredible job of narration, providing more depth and complexity to these wonderful characters.
This had been one of the best books that I have ever read. After listening to the audio version, it has jumped to the top of my list.
Remarkable!
