Too many workplaces are driven by cynicism, paranoia, and self-interest. But the best ones foster trust and cooperation because their leaders build what Sinek calls a "Circle of Safety" that separates the security inside the team from the challenges outside. Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories that range from the military to big business, from government to investment banking.

Personally didn’t find it all that insightful

I felt the incorporation of the chemicals was good but it wasn’t done well as they were put in throughout the book haphazardly. The book is a great intro to leadership.

Nobody needs to be told there isn’t enough time. Whether we’re starting our own business, or trying to write a novel during our lunch break, or staring down a pile of deadlines as we’re planning a vacation, we’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and ceaseless struggle against distraction. We’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient and life hacks to optimize our days.

Ironically, this was a waste of time lol
Évalué le: 2022-08-23
Oliver is overly pessimistic in his opinions and while I was open minded and listened to chapters over I really didn’t glean anything from this book beyond the fact that we’re all trying too hard. At times I wondered if he was just filling words on a page to hit a quota. Perhaps that’s a bit harsh, but Burkeman’s work isn’t for me.

Histoire
Millions of people are plagued by low self-confidence. But in Confidence, personality expert Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic shows us that high confidence makes us less likeable, less employable, and less successful in the long run. He reveals the benefits of low confidence (including being more motivated and self-aware), teaches us how to know when to fake it, get ahead at work, improve our social skills, feel better emotionally and physically, and much more.

Underrated and Misunderstood
Évalué le: 2020-11-03
The book challenges a lot of our beliefs which is why so many dislike the book. It's important for everyone to know that Tomas is not saying anxiety and depression is good, he is not saying confidence is bad, he is not saying that you should only listen to what others say, he isn't even saying pessimism is all good. He is trying to bring balance to a set of unbalanced beliefs we have.

I know that might sound harsh, but this didn’t bring me as much value as I hoped it would. Very disappointing purchase. :(

Why is this so short
Évalué le: 2020-09-24
The book is more than 400 pages. Why is the audiobook only 90minutes? This is not a full version and it’s very odd that the full book is not available in English but only in Russian. Pass on this one.

Histoire
The Antidote is a series of journeys among people who share a single, surprising way of thinking about life. What they have in common is a hunch about human psychology: that it’s our constant effort to eliminate the negative that causes us to feel so anxious, insecure, and unhappy. And that there is an alternative "negative path" to happiness and success that involves embracing the things we spend our lives trying to avoid.

A limited perspective on positivity

While I agree with Oliver that the self help industry is full of flash and charlatans, his overly pessimistic attitude is apparent in between the lines as I made my way from chapter to chapter. This book would have been so much better if he didn’t overly simplify positivity as merely something the ultra naive believe in. Not a lot garnered from this book unfortunately.
