Histoire
Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

Great Author, so-so Narrator
Évalué le: 2022-07-11
Jim does good voice work, but his pacing is off - not EVERY single sentence needs dramatic emphasis.
Also, is that how he hears Harry's voice in his head? Like a Chicagoland John Wayne?
His character voices are all well done, but having heard 17+ books' worth of them done differently made these grate a little. They're all good voices for OTHER characters, if that makes sense.
Jim Butcher is a fantastic author. Here's hoping he continues to improve as a narrator.

Great story, narrator overmatched.
Évalué le: 2020-07-18
James is a little overmatched at times in this one. He's normally very good, and I enjoy him as the voice of the Dresden Files. But in this one, he seemed to have too many character voices to keep straight, and he muddled a few. A number of key characters sounded different from past performances/books as well. Mab sounded like a raspy old lady (or Tessa/Imariel), for example, and Vadderung sounded like Mouse at one point.
Butcher writes a hell of a story though. There were a number of times that I was just in awe of how he moved the plot, and drew the listener into the desired emotional connection. Loved it.
