Histoire
Margot and James are broken up—for good this time. James made sure of it when he dropped the bomb on Margot: that he doesn’t want kids, ever. Then, on the biggest morning of his life, James—an ambitious lawyer at a high-powered firm—wakes up pregnant. He realizes with dread that he is part of a recent epidemic of men suddenly and inexplicably becoming pregnant. His condition obvious to the higher-ups, James is denied the promotion he was expecting, sending him reeling.

Absolutely fabulous. First time I’ve ever read dystopian fiction and thought ‘yeah, that should happen!’

A taboo subject with roots of inter generational trauma discussed with chilling detail. I won’t forget this story.

Would you travel the world with a perfect stranger? Fasten your seat belts for an emotional journey filled with humor and adventure. Bachelor and newscaster Pete McCarney buys two plane tickets for a trip around the world with his girlfriend, but they split up shortly before the trip, and he can't get a refund. Very bad accents
Évalué le: 2024-01-19
The narration of this books was dismal. The Irish accent lacked authenticity and overall the narration was poor.

Histoire
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

A memorable tale

Beautifully written but poorly narrated. Multiple narrators or one with better French would have improved the audible version of this story.

Histoire
In the early hours of a summer morning, a young woman steps into the path of an oncoming bus. A tragic accident? Or suicide? At the center of this puzzle is Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect and grief-stricken widower, who, a year after his third wife's death, begins to investigate the cause. As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface. The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought.

An inside look at Divorce
Évalué le: 2022-11-21
This book is a meaningful look into the long term effects of divorce on children, regardless of their age. Children are often consumed by thoughts about living up to parental expectations, but how much thought is given by parents to living up to their children's expectations for them?

Full of Filler
Évalué le: 2022-10-16
This could have been a good story but the reader waits and waits for something to actually happen and it doesn’t until the last paragraph of the book. The writing and conversation of the characters is mundane and hearing details about how to fix a toilet and how to heat food in the microwave makes you want to pull your hair out.

Histoire
Genevieve has secrets that no one knows. In Rome she can be whoever she wants to be. Her neighbours aren't nosy; her Italian is passable; the shopkeepers and restaurant owners now see her as a local, and they let her be. It's exactly what she wants. One morning, after getting groceries, she returns to her 500-year-old Trastevere apartment - it's exactly as she left it, not a thing out of place...except for the small box on her kitchen table. A box that definitely wasn't there this morning. A box that is addressed to "Lucy Callahan." A name that she hasn't used in 10 years.

Insufferable Evangelical Tilt
Évalué le: 2022-08-07
Some really good practical advice for enabling parents. The author’s persistent use of Biblical themes and Christian dogma was disappointing. Reminds me to read reviews before I purchase but I have made use of the practical advice so I did complete the book.

Histoire
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Interesting stories and always a pleasure to listen to Matthew. The audio levels on this book are annoying. You turn up because he is whispering and then get your ears blown out when he starts the next topic.

It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on. I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine. It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.

Very enjoyable listen after a dubious start. Loved the characters voices and the bit of mystery was well done although the ending was totally predictable.
