Loved the Canadian connections

Like many, it was the voice acting from Brendan Fraser and Colm Feore that drew me to the story. I am glad I listened as this was a wonderful performance with excellent characters voiced by great people. Lots of references to current and past events and forward thinking ideas to add a feeling that this could really happen if we don’t get our collective poop in a group. Worth the time and I will likely listen to it again.

What an unexpected treat!

I downloaded this book because it was inexpensive and i was a fan of the narrator’s work as an actor. I was hooked almost immediately and loved the way the story came together and played out. I would like to have heard more follow through on some of the characters after the conclusion but i am a sucker for seeing everyone either get their “cumuppings” or to see them have a happy ending. Great super natural story with pretty good narration. It provided what I was looking for and gave me an escape without having to think too hard. It could easily work into a series.

Wanted to like it more!

I was disappointed with this story. The performance was great and I am a fan of the genre. Yes I made the mistake of watching the movie years ago but only vaguely remembered how it ended. I enjoyed the journey of the story and the performance but when I reached the end it was so unsatisfying. It is a dark and lonely story, You have to take a lot for granted; his ability to fix the cars, maintain a generator to run a freezer etc. Anyone who has run a generator during a long power outage would recognize that as a monumental feat., Why had stuff not expired?, How was he able to consistently find and access stabilized gas. I did not understand his limited stockpile and use of available firearms. His choice to stay where he was for so long. Despite all that, I was drawn into Neville's world and felt for his loss. He should have been dead many times over but he was a survivor deliberately or not. The ending was (for me anyway) not consistent with the story. Perhaps it was inevitable but so unsatisfying. That said I want to go through it again to see what I may have missed and perhaps that will change how I feel about the story. Great performance.

Wonderful Journey

I purchased this simply because I had watched the series on Prime and liked it so I thought this would be a good listen. I was so incredibly blown away. Gaiman's words painted a vivid picture for me of Shadow's journey. The full cast production was outstanding, the voices truly brought to life the story and my biggest disappointment was having it finish. Not to be cliche but I really enjoyed the audio book so much more than the series. I have listened to Stephen King's the stand 3 times now and I know I will be listening to American Gods many more times. I listen to audio books to provide an escape while I am doing mundane tasks, this book had me listening purely for the performance of a great story.

This is a great study on what life could be like

I have enjoyed this audiobook twice now and I am sure I will do it again and again. it is disturbing picture of what could happen if someone "drops the ball" Great charactors representing good and evil. What would we do if the etch-o-sketch that is this life was given a shake. What would the new picture look like?

Read the book first and enjoyed the audiobook

This is an incredible story. A lot of back story and context. I read it first and then listened to the audiobook. The is a doc on YouTube featuring the people in the book. This really brings it all home. I recommend this to anyone who wants to better understand the challenges man and tiger must endure both trying to survive whether the other must live.

thought provoking

I was a fan already. i really value the insight and thought provoking stories Dan uses to get across his message. as i finish i am starting it again. at this point i am unable to access the literature that is supposed to come with the book. Hope to figure it out soon
