Histoire
Kate is a Keeper—a storyteller, magic-wielder, and researcher—but a single mystery has evaded her all her life: What happened on the tragic day when two strangers stole not only the puzzle box that hummed with magic but so much more? She and her brother Bo have searched for twenty years with no luck. Until Venn, a surly elf, shows up on the hidden doorstep of the Keepers' Stronghold with that same aenigma box—and a message that Bo has disappeared. Kate needs a guide back to Venn's homeland to search for him, and Venn needs to find him for reasons of her own.

Nothing turns me off a fantasy novel faster than focusing on a female protagonist’s romantic love interest - and thankfully this book has NONE of that nonsense. A really solid story with an interesting cast of characters and plenty of intrigue. I appreciated that there were a few call-backs to previous books (but not so many that readers would be confused if this was the first Keeper book they picked up). Can’t wait for the next book in the Runelight series!

A year ago, on the land’s biggest stage, Sable’s voice nearly burned down the carefully constructed lies of the Kalesh Empire. Now, Sable’s skills are merely tools in High Prioress Vivaine’s desperate negotiations with the new Kalesh ambassador, who’s denounced Sable as a zabat. A rebel. A firestarter. Sable would love nothing more than to burn down the empire. But with threats against her sisters looming, the acting troupe driven away, and no news of Reese for a year, she’s too chained and alone to even light a spark.

Good, not great

I’m enjoying this series for the storyline but the writing on this book felt subpar compared to the first Keeper Origins book. The phrase “raised an eyebrow” is used so frequently that I started to wonder whether it might make a potentially lethal drinking game. That said, I downloaded the next book immediately so JA Andrews is doing something right.

As a cofounding member of the Beach Boys in the 1960s, Wilson created some of the most groundbreaking and timeless popular music ever recorded. With intricate harmonies, symphonic structures, and wide-eyed lyrics that explored life's most transcendent joys and deepest sorrows, songs like "In My Room", "God Only Knows", and "Good Vibrations" forever expanded the possibilities of pop songwriting.

An inspiring retrospective

Being an obsessive fan, I was worried I would be bored by a bunch of stories I’d heard before. Don’t get me wrong, this book WAS full of stories I’d heard before, but I definitely wasn’t bored by them. What makes this book special is that Brian is telling the stories as a 70-something year old man who has had time to reflect on the highs and lows. He’s learned to celebrate his accomplishments (both musically and in his personal life) and found ways to make peace with the bad stuff along the way. The narrative is unmistakably Brian in that it’s all over the place, but Ben Greenman has done an amazing job of weaving it all into a captivating and insightful retrospective of Brian’s life.

Histoire
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

Captivating!

It’s pretty easy to find free audiobooks for public domain works, but the quality of narration can be meh. I’m SO glad I decided to pay for this specific version. Russell Tovey is a goddamn treasure.
