Histoire
As the ancient tradition of Bingtown's Old Traders slowly erodes under the cold new order of a corrupt ruler, the Vestrits anxiously await the return of their liveship - a rare magic ship carved from sentient wizardwood, which bonds the ships mystically with those who sail them. And Althea Vestrit waits even more avidly, living only to reclaim the ship as her lost inheritance and captain her on the high seas. But the Vivacia has been seized by the ruthless pirate captain Kennit, who holds Althea's nephew and his father hostage.

I respect the author generally but this was mediocre

I read the farseer trilogy and for the most part enjoyed it (especially book 2). I've been disappointed in this trilogy though. The first book was ok but I almost feel like nothing happens for most of this book. And my god, too much feminism! Everything up to the dragons goes on and on about how strong woman are and how they don't need a man. Like ok lady, we get it. No need to smack me in the head with it.

Histoire
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

It was a great experience. I loved listening to "Piranesi" talk. His view of the world; his relationship with the house was wondrous and comforting :)
This could be a great movie!

Prince Lyov Nikolayevitch Myshkin is one of the great characters in Russian literature. Is he a saint or just naïve? Is he an idealist or, as many in General Epanchin's society feel, an "idiot"? Certainly his return to St. Petersburg after years in a Swiss clinic has a dramatic effect on the beautiful Aglaia, youngest of the Epanchin daughters, and on the charismatic but willful Nastasya Filippovna. As he paints a vivid picture of Russian society, Dostoyevsky shows how principles conflict with emotions - with tragic results.

Obviously an incredible work and a wonderful narrator too. The ending is haunting and stays in your thoughts long after you put the book down. 👌
Plus, the themes of Christ are very thought provoking.

A decent narrator, good story, drags a bit at times.
Évalué le: 2024-01-26
I agree with the other comment about being a bit long winded but other than that a pretty good book and very decent narrator. Except maybe the ending a bit, none of it felt spectacular in any way but it does have a consistent good quality 🤷♂️

Histoire
After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

I feel like an anomaly since everyone else loves it lol
I think the writing is beautifully done, and the dark fantasy is fascinating. However, I personally didn't love the characters or dialogue. I also don't like so many female warrior characters without any "magical" explanation for them. But these are all subjective so others may love all that. (*I only got half way through before losing interest)

Excellent writing! I respect the author for her decisions throughout the plot. The ending was great. during the first book I wasn't too sure about the narrator but he did such a great job in this book. There is one line near the end that was delivered so well that it's itched into my mind now.

The narrator is incredible! this lady is so good, I doubt I would have enjoyed the book nearly as much without her. 👏👏👏
I'm jealous of Robert Jordan. his such a beautiful author!
Having said all that, I'm not a huge fan of the story. probably just a personal thing but quest fantasies can get a bit boring for me. If you do like that genre though this book is as good as it gets probably.
(I haven't read the others yet so I'm only commenting on this one)

It's very well written although I'm not a big fan of the protagonist. I do love the main villain though! lol
I can't say it would rank in my favorite fantasy stories but it's a fantastic book. I especially love the horror and other dark scenes. Those were mesmerizing 😮

oh god what happened to the narrator!!
Évalué le: 2023-01-28
I don't understand how the narrator for the GOT books could do such a poor job at remembering which voice he did for who... over the last two books people's voices are constantly changing
for the love of god, for the next book fix this issue!
