Histoire
Lake Geneva, 1816. Nineteen-year-old Mary Shelley is inspired to write a story about a scientist who creates a new life-form. In Brexit Britain, a young transgender doctor called Ry is falling in love with Victor Stein, a celebrated professor leading the public debate around AI and carrying out some experiments of his own in a vast underground network of tunnels. Meanwhile, Ron Lord, just divorced and living with his mom again, is set to make his fortune launching a new generation of sex dolls for lonely men everywhere.

Big fan of Jeanette Winterson

Classic Winterson fantasy that doesn’t fail to twist the brain in ways unexpected. The love affair and complicated union of Victor and Ry Shelly would make an excellent book club debate topic.

Histoire
Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body - how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Bryson-esque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular. As Bill Bryson writes, "We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted."

Bill Bryson The Body amazes
Évalué le: 2023-03-08
I have read two of Bill Bryson’s books (The Body and A Short History of Nearly Everything) and they are dense with a rich explanation of life and the universe in easily understandable, page turning terms.
