Histoire
Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather’s stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time. The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar.

Although futuristic stories are not my genre I did enjoy this one and the history of Irish independence. And the love ties from one generation to the next was beautiful.

An insight into how our justice system does side with the defendant over the one they killed and how the family of both become victims as well. The start of the book was repetitive but by the middle it had a forward flow. I had not known of this case and was saddened by the process to get justice and not sure it was achieved.

Histoire
It’s 1850, and the Noble family have travelled to the other side of the world to start a new life after scandal drove them from their native England. Pippa Noble is determined to reclaim their honour by making her father’s plan for an outback farm a reality, although her ambition is frowned upon by a society that has very set ideas about a woman’s place. Pippa learns the hard way about the unforgiving nature of the bush, sometimes with devastating consequences.

Histoire
New York, 1960: For Benny Lament, music is his entire life. With his father’s deep ties to the mob, the Bronx piano man has learned that love and family can get you in trouble. So he keeps to himself, writing songs for other musicians, avoiding the spotlight…until the night his father brings him to see Esther Mine sing. Esther is a petite powerhouse with a gorgeous voice. And when Benny writes a hit song and performs it with her, their collaboration thrusts the duo onto the national stage…and stirs up old issues and new scrutiny that the mob--and Benny--would rather avoid.

I love her writing. Each has a different genre but the theme of love that not only survives hardship but thrives and teaches us that although love is not easy it is a choice we made and we stick to our choices no matter what and are the better for it. Hope to find more books she has written.

Very well done. It grabbed you from the start and you could relate to the world war 2 situations and shear tragedies of the characters.

Histoire
In late March 1944, as Stalin’s forces push into Ukraine, young Emil and Adeline Martel must make a terrible decision: Do they wait for the Soviet bear’s intrusion and risk being sent to Siberia? Or do they reluctantly follow the wolves - murderous Nazi officers who have pledged to protect “pure-blood” Germans? The Martels are one of many families of German heritage whose ancestors have farmed in Ukraine for more than a century.

I bought this but mistake as it was advertised as the next in the series but what it is is a different way of telling the story and it’s not an improvement. Much preferred the old way of just reading the story instead of adding sounds snd other voices.

Too distracting
Évalué le: 2022-05-25
I read the first book and it had one narrator. This one had many narrators invoices and sound effects which I found very distracting and took away from the story. I much prefer one narrator and as this is the second in a series can you get used to a voice of a character and in this one it’s all different. Would not read a book with this narration again

Histoire
Gideon Zadok arrives in Israel with every intention to research a new book, mend a broken marriage, and improve his dysfunctional family. But as political tensions escalate and his family is evacuated, Zadok asks to follow Israeli paratroopers to secure Mitla Pass and finds himself in the midst of one of the largest global crises of the twentieth century. A sweeping novel of love, passion, and freedom, Mitla Pass stands as an epic look at modern Middle Eastern history and is quite possibly Uris’s most autobiographical work.

Not what I expected
Évalué le: 2022-05-11
I am a big Leon Uris fan but this book was a disappointment - I did not get captured by the characters as I did in other books like Exodus - I did not like a few of the main characters so it was hard to identify with them. Also there was too much swearing - the story jumped all over as well and the connections and stories of the past generations did not add to the what happened at Mitla pass.

Good story but narration to bland
Évalué le: 2022-04-29
I liked the concept of the story but in exciting parts like fight scenes the narrator remains talking in the same pace and tone - No indication that something face paced or dangerous is happening. I’m older and the voice reminds me of The narrator for Charlie the cougar stories from the wonderful world of Disney. Good for the adventures relating to families with kids but not for a marine in war on an adult level.
