I loved hearing about the author’s life and especially the environmental activism he has been engaged in globally. Very inspiring.

Beautifully written. The wisdom of Anishnabe culture underpins a page turning story about a strong and intelligent young woman who has an Anishnabe father and a White mother, and who lives in both worlds. The community in which she lives is facing a Crystal meth crisis. Her half brother is captain of the hockey team. She is asked to join an FBI undercover unit and finds herself drawn in by a charming young operative. Women go missing. Others turn up dead. Who is lying and who is telling the truth? Who can she truly trust?

A very provocative read. Be prepared to feel uncomfortable. The truth is not pretty. But if we wish to bring about meaningful change then we need to recognize the reality of white supremacy and systemic racism - from which white people have benefited for centuries. I thank the author for her courage in writing this very important book!

I thought this book would be depressing. I was wrong. Jesse Thistle does not shy away from describing the inter generational trauma generated by colonialism and racism nor the brutality of imprisonments and homelessness. Yet this book is fundamentally a book about hope and resilience. This book is very well written and I found it almost impossible to set aside. It is filled with insight. It honors his Michif ancestry. I look forward to reading future works by this author and to learning more about Michif history.

A book about four homeless people and one lonely upper middle class man, and about love and friendship, and above all —about connection. Richard Wagamese has a wonderful way of teaching us love and compassion to even the most wary of us. I kept thinking I knew what would happen next, and yet I was almost always wrong. A wonderful read!
