Histoire
William C. Davis, one of America’s best Civil War historians, here offers a definitive portrait of the Confederacy unlike any that has come before. Drawing on decades of writing and research among an unprecedented number of archives, Look Away! tells the story of the Confederate States of America not simply as a military saga (although it is that), but rather as a full portrait of a society and incipient nation.

Interesting book, awful narration

I've read a lot of Civil War history, including previous work by Mr. Davis, and he has a thorough analysis of Southern politics even if I think he's too easy on the Confederacy at times. He's thoughtful and sketches personalities and motives well.
This is the worst narration I've ever heard on a professional audiobook. The default narrating is bad enough, seeming to struggle with pacing and familiarity with longer words. But individual quotes (there are many, since Davis is consciously trying to emphasize first-person perspectives) the narrator employs cartoonishly awful accents that made me want to give up on a book I was very interested in. I know this sounds harsh, but it really is that bad. I can't recommend this audiobook for that reason.
