Description
Nearly 40 years ago, Ralph Martin's best-selling A Crisis of Truth exposed the damaging trends in Catholic teaching and preaching that, combined with attacks from secular society, threatened the mission and life of the Catholic Church. While much has been done to counter false teaching over the last four decades, today the church faces even more insidious threats from outside and within.
In A Church in Crisis: Pathways Forward, Martin offers a detailed look at the growing hostility to the Catholic Church and its teaching. With copious evidence, Martin uncovers the forces working to undermine the Body of Christ and offers hope to those looking for clarity.
A Church in Crisis covers:
- Polarization in the church caused by ambiguous teachings
- Initiatives that accommodate the culture without calling for conversion
- Vatican-sponsored partnerships with organizations that actively contradict the teaching of the Catholic Church
- And the recycling of theological errors long settled by Vatican II, Pope St. John Paul II, and Pope Benedict XVI
Powerfully written, A Church in Crisis reminds all listeners to heed Jesus' express command not to lead his children astray. With ample resources to encourage readers, Ralph Martin provides the solid foundation of Catholic teaching both Scripture and tradition to fortify Catholics against the errors that threaten us from all directions.

Book is 5*, narration not so much
So much good and relevant information in this book. The Church is under attack and there is plenty here to understand how and why.
The only criticism I have is IMHO it was a mistake for the author to read the book. He is a brilliant author and theologian, but reading isn’t as good. And listening in my car, which is noisy, I sometimes had to have it so loud just to make out what was being said. Also, there were some repeats of lines, some break offs and such like which was off putting. Shame. But the book itself is worth it.

A great book with a flawed narration
The central points of this book are excellent and I highly recommend it. In particular, the opening section with outlines the problems in the church is detailed without belabouring points and profound in the way that problems are linked to deeper spiritual realities. The author himself narrates the book and unfortunately I don't think this was the best choice. There are times where the audio is rather unpolished (eg. the sound of paper rustling and mistakes in narration that were not edited out correctly). That having been said, the narration does not significantly detract from the book itself which is compelling for it's content and extreme relevance to today.

Necessary Reading for all Catholics
Ralph Martin takes the hierarchy to task in this well-researched, insightful book. It shines a light on the deceitful and insidious ways so-called Catholic clergy and leaders are corrupting the teachings of the Church.
