Better than meh, worse than good
I loved the male voice in this book, but the woman... She kept elonging words, putting emphasis on things that didn't even make sense. I kept having to put her parts faster so I wouldn't feel the need to roll my eyes every few seconds. Also, where was Leila's British accent?
The plot was meh and the writing was a bit much...
Maybe high fantasy isn't for me...

Loved the story!
This was my first V.E. Schwab book and definitely not the last! I loved her writing, her story telling, how she describes each world, the characters. Everything was amazing (story wise). I didn't however, really enjoy the voice actors. When it came to dialogue between the characters, the voice actor sounded the same so it was kind of hard to distinguish/imagine the characters coming to life since they would sound exactly the same.
Overall, the story was amazing. The audiobook was okay. #audible1

I love the first two books but
This one really dragged. I also thought it was weird that the female narrator totally scrapped Lila's British accent in this book. In the first book, her accent was cockney, the second one, more 'high royal' but by the time this book came out, she totally had no accent.

I really didn't care that much about Holland's backstory or Rye's life. They could have cut most of that out and made more of it about their trip on the water to the black floating market (coolest part). Also.. Why did Kel burn that paper with the remembering spell? Did the author not care to talk about the main character's backstory? But why go into everyone else's backstory? We also didn't ever learn about Lila's origin or how Maris knew her. It was all so stupid... Why didn't they find out about their lives and parents? I mean, the whole notion that the family they gave now is more important than their origins is pretty weak. Sorry... Weak writing. Story was tight until this book. Basically game of throned the whole thing. Fail.

Zero Payoffs as a Series.
Just finished book three if only to prove to myself that this series takes forever to go nowhere. Payoffs are few and far between, painfully obvious mysteries take two books to be addressed, characters experience next to no growth, and random artifacts and spells solve most problems. Characters who get added in to the series have next to zero payoff as well which is frustrating and mean that book 2 and 3 are mostly a waste of time
