À propos de cet audio

In pulsating polluted Kathmandu, and an idyllic village at the foot of the Himalayas, "Doctor Jane" and her engineer husband, Simon, hope to make a difference: Jane to fulfill her vision to heal and advocate for the poor, Simon to avert floods that threaten to devastate the country every monsoon. As they acclimatize and begin to absorb something of an accepting Nepali view of life, they find sanity, compassion, and joy with baby David, who in England was little more than an interesting medical case.

This is a tale of Himalayan highs and lows, of cultural complexities, unexpected wildlife, and rugged terrain, of vivid color, superstition, and spicy smells. A moving candid story of courage, love, and a family's determination to give their children the best life possible.

"The proverbial life-changing book." (The Daily Telegraph)

In an immediately engaging and poignant matter-of-fact manner, ‘A Glimpse of Eternal Snows’ vividly illustrates advantages of ancient Asian culture unknown by most.

The tale readily maintains interest by means of light humour, colourful vignettes and perceptive observation. Few judgements are made.

Related is the true story of the UK societal rejection of a severely mentally disabled, middle class, white new born baby, and corresponding mother’s despair. This is in sharp contrast to the baby’s natural acceptance and cheerful welcome, weeks later in Nepal.

The narrator’s relaxed tone of voice conveys a quiet optimism. You will be immersed in a society which has minimal material wealth in comparison to the West, and yet may present greater resilience. Lacking are many signs of discontent so prevalent in the first world. Diverse observations of horrific poverty and human cruelty are not varnished.

Such a kaleidoscope of inspiration has diverse utility; beckoning widespread circulation to the women of the Western Europe, North America and stimulating reconsideration of ethnic friction and societal discontentment from novel and refreshing perspectives.
