À propos de cet audio
Statins are among the most widely prescribed drugs in the world. Yet many report unacceptable side effects, and a US survey revealed that 75 per cent of respondents stopped taking them within a year.
So what is the evidence for their benefits? Dr Aseem Malhotra, author of the best-selling The 21-Day Immunity Plan and co-author of the best-selling The Pioppi Diet, examines the claims for statins and their role in lowering cholesterol and preventing heart disease. He introduces us to his targeted heart-health plan, which, with a diet plan, recipes and advice on reducing stress and increasing movement, can help us to live statin-free and take control of our own health.

Dr Aseem Malhotra, a leading NHS cardiologist, has led the way in citing obesity, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease as frequent factors in those hospitalised with coronavirus. He shows how they result from poor metabolic health, including an over-dependence on ultra-processed foods, which seriously affects our immune response. In this life-changing 21-day plan he brings us the good news that we can reverse our health and rapidly improve our resilience to infection and disease through just a few simple lifestyle changes - to our diet, how we exercise, sleep and reduce stress.

Heart disease is the number-one killer. However, traditional heart disease protocols - with their emphasis on lowering cholesterol - have it all wrong. Emerging science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as ineffective low-fat/high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. The Great Cholesterol Myth reveals the real culprits of heart disease.

Our ability to prevent and reverse these conditions—and feel incredible today—is under our control and simpler than we think. The key is our metabolic function—the most important and least understood factor in our overall health. As Dr. Casey Means explains in this book, nearly every health problem we face can be explained by how well the cells in our body create and use energy. To live free from frustrating symptoms and life-threatening disease, we need our cells to be optimally powered so that they can create “good energy,” the essential fuel that impacts every aspect of our wellbeing.

Before the discovery of insulin, diabetes was treated almost exclusively through diet, from subsistence on meat, to reliance on fats, to repeated fasting and near-starvation regimens. After two centuries of conflicting medical advice, most authorities today believe that those with diabetes can have the same dietary freedom enjoyed by the rest of us, leaving the job of controlling their disease to insulin therapy and other blood-sugar-lowering medications.

The heavy emphasis on research based theory and both scientific and layman explanation.
This is a very well researched, clear and concise book that will have you studying for a degree as an “Armchair Cardiologist.” This is a terrific example of how we should evaluate previous claims and theories by evaluating evolving research. This should be a model for how all medical interventions are evaluated and administered. I’m very thankful that I came across this book after having been prescribe statins twice, and having many conflicting statements made by those prescribing them. In Canada, many of us rely on telemedicine as “Family Doctors” dwindle and Walk-In clinics and Urgent Care centres are closed or overwhelmed. Armed with this new information, I plan to make some serious changes to my lifestyle following the logic and reason presented here after gaining a real understanding of what’s taking place in my body. If you’re concerned about your health after being warned about heart disease, listen to this book.
