Rodger did a good job as always but the story....
Rodger Clark (narrator) is a master of his craft but even he couldn't make this story palatable. I understand it was written 20 yrs, or so, ago so I'll forgive the threatening with rape in perspective. What I can't get over is how much this book focuses on details about the battles and maps, and then seems to rush through the actual romance. It almost feels like it was written by a 40 year old male history teacher who spends his weekend being a recreationist, rather than a women.
Also if you're looking for any kind of character development then this book is not it. The main characters are very 2 dimensional and have zero growth as people. They were constantly doing things that didn't make sense. Like how Beau, who had grown up on pirate ship for the last 8 years taught herself how to navigate a ship, but knew nothing about ship politics. But then, she goes on to give a lesson to Simon, a Lord, on how to be political within his world. It was all so boring. I ended the book hoping they would be disfigured or dead because that would be slightly exciting.
