For eight years, far beyond the battlefields of Vietnam and the glare of media distortions, American Green Berets fought a deadly secret war in Laos and Cambodia under the aegis of the top secret Military Assistance Command Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group, or SOG.

Go deep into the jungle with five SOG warriors surrounded by 10,000 enemy troops as they stack up the dead to build a human buttress for protection. Witness a Green Beret, shot in the back four times and left for dead, who survives to fight savagely against incredible odds to complete his missions.

Shudder as an enemy soldier touches a Green Beret’s boot in the dark of night. Cringe as a Sergeant on SOG Spike Team Louisiana calls in an air strike on his team to break an enemy’s wave attack. A team member dies instantly, and a Green Beret has an out-of-body experience as he watches his leg get blown off.

An amazing story, that defies anything you’ve ever seen from Hollywood.

For those concerned about the performance, put it on 1.2x speed - that fixes the issue with the cadence for me.

What a story...

I wasn't able to put this book down, as it were. I listened to it in one go from start to finish.
Just incredible what these guys went through. Truly makes you realise that it's all down to a roll of the dice, ok so you can help tip the dice in your favour, but still...

Good book, worth the credit.

If you are a fan of the subject matter, you'll enjoy this book, has some interesting stories and insights into what qent on in Vietnam. if you are not a fan, you may find it drag. The reading is flat and lavks any dramatization which would really help in my opinion.

Great book, Superhuman men doing unbelievable things.

Unbelievable story, I can’t believe I had never even considered what MACV SOG was having seen the patch before. I found it very interesting that the guy in charge was usually the most experienced despite rank. John Meyer is an amazing man and a serious warrior but his reading style took away from the book at times.

Eye Opening

This is a great story read by an amazing fellow. It gives the reader the chance to view the Veitnam war through the eyes of the men on the ground away from all the politics and high minded talking points and brings it right down to the reality of things and what the real situation on the ground actually was.

If anything listening to this book keeps the memories alive of all the servicemen of both countries who fought and gave their lives for something they believed in. They should not be forgotten or overlooked.

Immerse yourself in Special Forces Vietnam

Here is a glimpse into the first and second hand experiences of Tilt "Stryker" Meyer in a top secret Green Beret team.
Perhaps some of the most dangerous and incredible missions of that war came from these teams of warriors.

It is the very rare author that can read their book better than a professional narrator could do. This is the best example of a bad reader wrecking a story.
