À propos de cet audio
The critically acclaimed author of Alien: The Cold Forge takes listeners to a rogue colony where terror lurks in the tunnels of an abandoned Weyland-Yutani complex.
“Shy” Hunt and the tech team from McAllen Integrations thought they’d have an easy job - set up environmental systems for the brand new Hasanova Data Solutions colony, built on the abandoned ruins of a complex known as “Charybdis”. There are just two problems: The colony belongs to the Iranian state, so diplomacy is strained at best, and the complex is located above a series of hidden caves that contain deadly secrets. When a bizarre ship lands on a nearby island, one of the workers is attacked by a taloned creature, and trust evaporates between the Iranians and Americans. The McAllen Integrations crew is imprisoned, accused as spies, but manages to send out a distress signal - to the Colonial Marines.

Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

Even before the doomed mission to Hadley’s Hope on LV-426, Jenette Vasquez had to fight to survive. Born to an immigrant family with a long military tradition, she looked up to the stars, but life pulled her back down to Earth—first into a street gang, then prison. The Colonial Marines proved to be Vasquez’s way out—a way that forced her to give up her twin children. Raised by Jenette’s sister, those children, Leticia and Ramon, had to discover their own ways to survive.

Histoire
The planet LV-363 teems with exotic life, including a plant growing in the shadows of its deep rifts. The plant’s flower yields a valuable narcotic, and people are forced by the cartels to harvest it. When a Yautja (Predator) ship arrives for a hunting ritual, the Predators seed the rifts with Xenomorph eggs. The aliens emerge and the result is bizarre and deadly hybrids, with humans trapped between the Predators and their prey. These deadly Xenomorph hybrids—some of which possess the ability to fly—swarm out of control and may prove more than the Yautja or the humans can defeat.

My personal favorite of the alien novels
This book is the most complex of the alien novels with its take on geo-political politics. As a follow up to the Cold Forge this book is vastly superior and I highly recommend it.

Ignore the "anti-woke" crowd
This was a good alien story showing how bad things can get when WY basically runs a government and military, and how that impacts other governments and colonies who have no ties to WY.
Very slight spoilers ahead.
It also doesn't try to put all the blame on a faceless corporation. It takes individual people, as well as systems in the government and military enabling, covering up, or actively participating in WY's warcrimes for the corruption to set in and thrive. That is bound to exacerbate existing racism, sexism, and general bigotry in the people who make up the systems.

Too much wasted time
They spend too much time developing characters who just die. Too many main characters die. “Subverting expectations” has gone too far.

An Underwhelming Alien Book
Alien: Into Charybdis is a semi, quasi, loose sequel to Alex White's great Alien novel, "The Cold Forge". There are elements that link this book to "Cold Forge" but it's not a sequel per se and doesn't require to have read that book to enjoy Charybdis. "Into Charybdis" is well-written, White's ear for dialogue is on point as usual, and Shiromi Arserio does a good job at reading it for the most part, struggling now and then with some of the male voices, but overall, this story dragged and I lost interest far too many times to make this a great read/listen. I find it had a similar issue as "Cold Forge" in terms of there being too many main characters and not one that we truly care about. Still, at times, it can be a fun book and there are often glimpses of brilliance, including some cool Alien references and nice twists. It's not in the same league as the Audible trilogy of dramatizations of Alien novels from a few years back, but it's miles better than Scott Sigler's "Phalanx" and Tim Waggoner's "Prototype", both of which I couldn't bring myself to finish.

Great take on typical alien storyline
This book took your typical alien story and built on it in ways I really enjoyed. The movies mention the nefarious intentions of WY but never really go into it. The political aspect of this book is something I really enjoyed as it's what I imagined the actuality of WY's evil in a more realistic setting.
This book explores many characters that you get tied to and are left on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. I enjoyed the narrator's take on voices and it really helped build who they were in my head which overall helped the storyline.
Can't reccomend this book enough.

Alex White is a master!
White knows how to make you feel as if all hope is lost better than any other I've read. White knows how to flesh out a character, make you care for them and their survival.
Into Charybdis is another huge step into the Alien world. What a ride.
